Street
food
Easy and
cheap for a busy
city life
Nov. 2005
If there were a list of
world cities of food,
I believe Bangkok would possibly
be in the top ten.
You know, food
of some kind can easily
be spotted here 24 hours
a day, 7 days a week.
It's really that
simple.
One
way
to
find food
in
Bangkok
is
to
look
for
food
stalls
located
in
every
corner
of
the
city.
Bangkok’s
hot
weather
combines
with
the
people’s
busy
life
contribute
to
street
food.
(And eating out in restaurants
as well.) After
a
hard
day
work
and
some
hours
fight
against
the
traffic,
Bangkokians
become
exhausted.
Shopping
for street
food
on
the
way
home
is
easy,
cheap,
and
makes
life
more
pleasant.
The
Victory
Monument
in
the
evening
is
one
of
the
many
places
reflecting
this
way
of
life.
I have heard of
measures
to
relocate
street
food
to
a
safer
and
cleaner
environment
but
progress
has
been
very
limited.
Changing
a
way
of
life
is
not
simple.

1-2. Street food
is available
day and
night.
Most food
stalls sell only
one kind of
dish (main
dish,
dessert,
fruits, etc.)
To complete
a meal,
Bangkok
people have
to buy from
various
vendors. 3. This noodle
stall has the
“Clean
food, Good
taste”
sign to
ensure
customers
that they
have passed
the
authorities’
inspection.
4. Some
people
prefer to
eat out at
the food
stalls or restaurants
instead of
buying food
to go.
At least,
they can
save time
and energy
on washing
the dishes.
5. A street
sausage
vendor
taking a
nap.
Unless
sleeping in a hidden
location, a
trespassing
customer can
wake him up
to place an
order.
6-7. Here's
a
fried noodle
street restaurant
about to
open in a few
hours.
The
restaurant
materials
are usually
kept in a
remote place
nearby (eg
hidden
alley,
rented
space, etc.)
or directly from
the vendor's
home.
